2018 George Old Car Show - Driven by Oakhurst Insurance

The 2018 George Old Car Show was once again a huge success with an increased number of more than 13000 people attending. Approximately 900 old cars were on display which included a special exhibition of 35 British manufactured cars and more than 50 veteran and vintage cars. In addition there was a large selection of tractors and stationary engines.

AutoPavilion (part of VW South Africa) brought a special “Meet the Beetles” exhibition to the show which included the oldest Beetle and last Beetle. Part of their exhibition also included a VW Hybrid. The car auction was well supported even though most of the cars did not reach their reserve prices.

Renault celebrated their 50th anniversary with a large exhibition of a variety of Renaults. The Mercedes Benz Club once again represented the largest number of cars on display together with many other clubs from all over the country.

Many new cars were also on display from various dealers next to a display of Peter Lindenberg’s Ford bakkies and a Mustang fitted with super-charged engines costing more than R1,3 mil each. This was supplemented with the very interesting motor related and the arts and craft stalls together with the much needed food stalls.

Tickets were sold on-line for the first time this year and we trust that this will be the way to purchase tickets in the future. The show was marketed with an exhibition of two vintage cars in the Garden Route Mall two weeks before the show followed by the regular “Drive Through” through Pacaltsdorp and Thembalethu a week before the show.

The show generated sufficient funds once again for the Southern Cape Old Car Club to make generous donations to several needy charities in and around George.
