Eastern Cape Route for 6th Liquorland Heritage Tour

George – The Southern Cape Old Car Club’s (SCOCC) sixth Liquorland Heritage Tour, which takes place on 23 to 27 August, travels through the Eastern Cape this year.

The Heritage Tour, supported by Liquorland for the fifth time, leaves from George on 23 September and enthusiastic supporters of vintage and classic cars will have the opportunity to meet the owners and admire the vehicles along the route.

So far, more than 20 vehicles have been registered to participate. One of the prerequisites for participation is that the vehicle must have been manufactured before 1975. The two oldest vehicles taking part include a 1926 Ford Model T and a 1929 Chev Phaeton, which both date from way before then.

Day 1: 23 September – George to Jeffreys Bay (about 287 km)

The Heritage Tour departs from the PreCap centre in Courtenay Street, George, at 07:00. Following the R62, they will travel through the Eastern Cape towns of Joubertina, Kareedouw and Humansdorp to Jeffrey’s Bay. About midway along the route they will spend a while at the Kliphotel Country Shop near Misgund, before proceeding to the seaside town, where they will overnight at the Sea Shells Holiday Resort.

They will meet the Jeffreys Bay Classic Car Club at Supertubes Park in Da Gama Street at 16:00, where they would love to meet residents.

Day 2: 24 September – Jeffreys Bay to Addo (about 143 km)

On Heritage Day, the group will travel along the R102, R334 and R335 to the village of Addo, from where they will proceed to the Addo Elephant National Park. At the park, they will celebrate National Braai Day and the Southern African Veteran and Vintage Association’s (SAVVA) National Drive It day.

After enjoying refreshments at the Lapa at the Park’s reception, they will return to Addo village, where they will overnight at The Kraal.

Day 3: 25 September – Addo to Graaff Reinet (about 231 km)

After breakfast at The Kraal, they will travel along the R336 to Graaff Reinet. They will travel through Kirkwood and stop at the Kleinpoort Farm Stall for refreshments, before proceeding along the R75 via Jansenville to Graaff Reinet, where they will overnight at the Profcon Resort.

Day 4: 26 September – Graaff Reinet to Willowmore (about 175 km)

After breakfast, they will visit the Valley of Desolation, or some of the town’s interesting historical landmarks, before proceeding along the N9 to Willowmore. They will stop for tea at Oppi-Vlak farm stall about 40 km from Willowmore. They will overnight at The Willow Guesthouse in Willowmore.

Day 5: 27 September – Willowmore to George (about 199 km)

After breakfast, they will travel to George via De Rust, where they will enjoy refreshments at the church hall of the NG Kerk, before proceeding to George via Oudtshoorn.

Residents of all towns along the route are welcome to visit the venues where the Heritage Tour will stop and stay, in order to interact with the owners of the vehicles.

The Heritage Tour celebrates National Heritage Day and September as Tourism Month. It also serves to promote the SCOCC’s annual George Old Car Show, which will take place on 10 and 11 February 2018. The Heritage Tour also serves to stimulate a love and interest in this unique heritage on wheels.
